Matthew Dean
Matthew Dean is a tenor and countertenor, regarded for his stylistic flexibility and commitment to period detail. He has served as Artist in Residence at Chicago's Rockefeller Chapel since 2005, featuring as an oratorio soloist and Bach Evangelist. Matthew manages Schola Antiqua of Chicago, recording on Naxos and for medieval museum galleries internationally; his Sounds of Faith program, developed for The Met Cloisters, was heralded in The New Yorker and Commonwealth magazine. Beyond His Majesty’s Men, he regularly appears with the Newberry Consort, The Rookery, and Bella Voce, and he coaches ensembles nationally, on Russian and Gregorian chant. Matthew served on the faculty of the Madison Early Music Festival, and has undergraduate and graduate training as a medievalist from The University of Chicago.
